About badger seven™️
BADGER LUBRICANTS grease is the world’s first taste of the BADGER disruption. Made of a proprietary blend of ingredients that has yet to be introduced in tandem to the lubricants market, it has been proven to not only increase the overall mechanical tribological properties, but provide a higher ASTM D2596 4-Ball Weld Load as well.
What is the ASTM D2596 4-ball weld load test?
ASTM defines the D2596 Test as one that "differentiates between lubricating greases having low, medium, and high level of extreme-pressure properties.”
So what does that mean?
Diagram of the 4-Ball Weld Load test.
This test is to show the amount
of load that the grease can withstand before causing permanent failure or
seizure of the parts being lubricated. The “4-Ball Load Test” is composed of
(2) ½” steel ball bearings placed in a test cup filled with the lubricant
sample. The fourth ball is held in the rotating ball chuck, and is placed in
contact with the three lower balls with controlled downward force. The rotating
ball chuck then is rotated at 1760 rpm for 10 seconds with 80kg of downward
pressure. If the wear scar after 10 seconds is below the specified average
scar, then the downward pressure is increased in increments until the
lubrication fails and the 4 balls “weld” together. That weight is the
“Four-Ball Extreme Pressure Test – Weld Point” and is listed on the
specifications as the downward pressure force in kg.
How is this important?
The
more pressure the grease can withstand without breaking down results in
several different key reductions, mainly starting with the reduction in friction. See the Friction Flow below.
The Friction Flow
1 ▼
Less Friction
Less friction means higher levels of efficiency and less input force required.
2 ▼
Less input force
Less input force means less wear-and-tear on power drive units, resulting in efficiency gain, less power loss, and less heat generated.
3 ▼
Less heat
Less heat produced means less mechanical breakdown or runoff of grease, resulting in less wear due to mechanical failure.
4 ▼
Less wear
Less wear on parts being lubricated results in fewer parts replacements needed due to mechanical failure.
5 ▼
Fewer parts replacements
Fewer parts replacements means lower parts costs and less downtime needed to replace parts.
6 ▼
less downtime
Less downtime means higher efficiency, higher productivity, and faster ROI, resulting in a lower cost of ownership.
7 ▼
lower cost of ownership
A lower cost of ownership means higher profitability.
